WATER IONIZERS
A water ionizer splits ordinary tap water into alkaline water and acid water by electrical means. It has two water chambers, one with positive electrode and the other negative. These chambers are separated by a porous membrane with holes large enough for the minerals to pass through but too small for water molecules to go through. Alkaline minerals are positively charged and acid minerals are negatively charged. The positive electrode in the water ionizer attracts negatively charged acid minertals and the negative electrode attracts positively charged alkaline minerals. This is how one side of the ionizer has a concentration of alkaline minerals and the other side has the acid minerals.
It sound quite simple in principle but the actual construction of a water ionizer is not that easy. Ten years ago, hardly anybody has heard about a water ionizer producing alkaline water. Today, several models of water ionizers are on the market. The biggest problem with a water ionizer is hardware reliability; with some models, leakage, electrical shorts, and faulty meters are some of the most common problems. Among the machines that are reliable, price differences vary a great deal.
